HOW TO MAKE A GREAT PERSONAL LETTER
A. How to Write a Personal Letter
Depending on what type of
letter you will write (more to this later), this is the basic and usual way of
writing a letter.
1. Start your letter by writing your name and address in the top right-hand corner of the page.
Example :
Mile Pieter
Maddison Street
Robert Lewandowski
Munchen Street
2. Write the date on which you are writing your letter. This goes on the left-hand side of the letter, just space above where you will put your greeting.
Example :
January 6,2019
10 July 2020
3. After you wrote the date, under it is where you’ll write your greeting. Since this is a personal letter, you can be informal with your greeting. Depending on your relationship with the recipient, you can start your greeting with their name, nickname, or you could use pet names.
Example :
Dear Carroline,
Hey Jane,
4. After the greeting, it’s time to start
writing the content of your letter. Since this is not a business letter, your
content can be as long (or as short) as you want it to be. Include anything you
want to put in the letter.
5. When you finished your letter, don’t just
end it suddenly, but there should be a complimentary close and signature.
Example :
Love,
Hendric
Yours Truly,
Jhon
6. If you have forgotten to include something in your letter or you want to add an extra message, you can write a postscript (PS) under your name at the bottom of the letter
Example :
P.S. There's a party on Sunday, Wanna come?
B. Letter Writing Tips
Letter writing tips, If you're still not sure how your letter will turn out, here are a few tips you can follow and take note of :
1. Write a
draft. By doing this, you will avoid wasting paper. By writing a draft, you
can still edit your letter and when you write the last message in your actual
letter, your message is easy to read and looks neat.
2. Make sure
your handwriting is clear and neat. Your letter should be neat and easy to
read. If you feel like you don't have good handwriting, you can have the option
to: write your letter in MS word, ask someone else to write your letter or
better yet, you try your best to write in your best handwriting.
3. Make sure
your spelling is correct and there are no grammar mistakes. Proofread your
letter before you send it. Avoid sending letters with wrong grammar.Because, your recipient may be confused about what you mean in your
message.
4. Since this is not a poetry competition, your letter must be
written in simple and colloquial language.
5. As you write your letter, leave room for discussing topics that you and the recipient share
the same interests with.
6. If you are writing to someone you have not seen
for a long time or writing to a pen pal you are referring to, attach a recent photo of you to make
a platonic connection with your correspondent. Writing a letter with a writing
face makes the letter writer feel closer to the respondent.
